Information and Referral
Improving
access to mental health treatment is important. Our online directories can help
you locate community resources and individual providers or mental health agencies
to get the services you need. Our free telephone and email information and referral
service will help you navigate through the often confusing world of the mental
health system and locate the people and organizations best able to serve you.
Call
us at 434.977.4673 or email mha@avenue.org.
If
you or someone you know is in crisis, please seek help immediately by calling
911.
You may also contact Region Ten at 434-972-1800. The directory
of community resources can provide further information about crisis or emergency
services.
You
can also go to the MHA national website
for a fact sheet about seeking help and access to information about national services.
Screening
You
can find out whether you have symptoms of mental illness by taking a free online
screening. However, these screening tools cannot tell you whether or not you have
a mental illness or substance use disorder; only a trained mental health professional
or medical doctor can do that. The screening tools can help you identify signs
that you might have a disorder. If the signs or symptoms are present, you should
seek further assistance from a trained professional. Please call us for a referral
if you think you might need help.
Depression
Screening
The
depression screening site is
sponsored by National Mental Health America (NMHA) as part of its Campaign for
America's Mental Health. The mission of this Web site is to educate people about
clinical depression, offer a confidential way for people to get screened for symptoms
of the illness, and guide people toward appropriate professional help if necessary.Call
us to provide a referral for further evaluation if needed. You should see your
doctor or a qualified mental health professional if you experience five or more
of these symptoms for longer than two weeks or if the symptoms are severe enough
to interfere with your daily routine.
