Support
Groups
Groups
related to mental health and mental illness are offered as when we have the resources
to provide them. If you are in need of support but do not see an appropriate
group listed above, please give us a call. If enough interest is expressed,
we will look to start a group. All our services are free and we are eager
to work with trained Peer Support consumers and Professional Mental Health providers
who can offer pro bono groups at MHA.
We
have just completed a series of four groups per month of acupuncture for relaxation
and peer specialist led support groups. It our intention to recommence the peer
specialist support groups in the near future.
Please
check with us regularly to see what new groups have started or are in progress.

WRAP
for Veterans by Veterans
Wellness
recovery action planning shifts the focus in mental health care from 'symptom
control' to prevention and recovery. People effectively take responsibility for
their own wellness by using a variety of self-help techniques and reach out for
and use the support of a network of others.
"If
you are on active duty, in the reserves, or have been in the military you may
be having a hard time coping with the hardship, trauma, and loss related to military
service and being involved in war-related activities. You may have feelings and
experiences that are extremely upsetting, that keep you from being the way you
want to be and doing the things you want to do. In addition, things may be happening
in your life that are difficult to deal with. Family members and friends, who
dont understand what you are experiencing and why you are behaving the way
you are, may not know how to respond or how to help. Some may try to help and
others may turn away. You may feel like the situation is hopeless - that you will
never feel well and enjoy life again.
"The Wellness Recovery Action Plan can help you in the process of recovery,
of getting well and staying well, and of assisting you in becoming who you want
to be and making your life the way you want it. It will also be helpful to you
in adapting to any challenges you have in your life like chronic illness, serious
disability, being on active duty, or dealing with extreme loss or grief. . The
Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) for Veterans and People in the Military is
a model that provides hope for recovery and a full life."1
