Education for Mental Health
Mental Health America
of Charlottesville–Albemarle works to provide education that can:
- improve understanding of mental health and
mental illnesses
- promote early
recognition and treatment of mental health conditions
- enhance
the ability of schools, businesses, the health care system, faith communities,
and other settings to address the mental health needs of their constituencies
- encourage people to take steps
to protect and improve their own mental wellness or that of someone close to
them
- advance individual empowerment
and recovery from mental illness
Mental
Health America has developed a new program to assist individuals in leading a
more stress-free life.
Live Your Life
Well SM
With
increasing economic troubles piled on to the stress of work and family demands,
more and more
Americans are suffering. In fact, 58% of Americans reported
increased stress at the end of 2008, according to the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being
Index. This represents an increase of more than 22 million Americans who reported
struggling earlier in the year. During
these difficult times, Mental Health America wants people to know that there
are tools that can buffer the effects of stress and help them cope better with
the many challenges they face. In May of 2009, in honor of Mental Health Month,
the organization launched the Live
Your Life Well SM campaign to
provide people with 10 specific, research-based tools that can combat stress and
promote health and well-being. From relaxation techniques to journaling exercises
to simple ways to get better sleep and improve eating habits, the materials provided
offer a wide range of resources to build resiliency and well-being. The 10 Tools
to Live Your Life Well SM also includes information on how to seek
the help of a mental health professional.
